Legend QDI Releases DDR333
Mainboard for Intel's latest P4 Series
- P2E/333 and P8/333
On October 8, Intel releases to the public the much-talked-about i845PE/845GE chipset that supports DDR333 and upgrades DDR to 333MHz for the first time. At the same time, Legend QDI releases the DDR333 mainboards for P4 series - P2E/333 and P8/333 .
Supporting hyper-threading technology is one of
the most outstanding characteristics of QDI P2E/333 and P8/333
mainboards. By integrating two logic-processing units in the same
processor, the hyper-threading technology enables the CPU to execute
two threadings simultaneously. By this, the unused functions of
the computer can be sufficiently cultivated and the resource utilization
rate of the processor increased by at least 40%. For those multi-task
consumers who tend to download software while listening to music,
chatting on the Internet and printing documents at the same time,
they can make one personal computer do all the jobs generally
completed by 1.5 or even 2 PCs. This means they can spend a cent
twice. What a good deal. These two models of QDI mainboard provide
a special diagnostic light for the hyper-threading feature. Through
the control by BIOS and hardware, the five onboard diagnostic
lights will flash one by one when the computer boots up. To start
with, the Hardware Doctor executes its diagnostic function. Then
all the five lights flash once at the same time, indicating that
the hyper-threading function has been enabled. The status of the
diagnostic lights will tell the users whether the BIOS of the
mainboard has enabled the hyper-threading function (this function
is enabled as default on BIOS) and whether the CPU supports such
a function. Additionally, the "Hardware Doctor" that
the five diagnostic lights retain will easily find the failed
components of the system, making the operation an easy job.
Both mainboards support DDR333 internal memory and 533MHz external
frequency, with QDI's innovative CPU three-level protection technology.
It is the first time for such technology to be adopted in the
computer industry to protect CPU and widely used in P2D, P2E,
P8 and other products. Taking into full account the users' actual
requirements, QDI's three-level CPU protection design, e.g. Level
I - buzz alarming; Level II - automatic CPU slowdown; Level III
- automatic shutoff, ensures the safety of the CPU. Level III
- automatic shutoff may occur in two cases. One can be under WIN98
and WindowsXP where the operating system may realize the automatic
shutoff. Another, before entering the operating system (e.g. in
DOS), it may be done for protecting the CPU by forced shutoff.
Other EASY technologies familiar to us, such as SpeedEasyII, StepEasyII,
LogoEasyII, RecoveryEasyII, BootEasy and BIOS-ProtectEasy, are
provided free as gifts in the package.
For each mainboard model, options with LAN or without LAN are
available. The mainboards of this time are supplemented with a
giganet of as large as 1Gbps, making it 100/10 faster than the
LAN of 10/100Mbps. Besides, the mainboard series of this time
has passed the strict giganet test given by the Intel Laboratory.
Of course, there are some differences between the said two mainboards
based on different chipsets. For the P8/333 with i845GE, it integrates
Intel Extreme graphics card which will fully satisfy the expectations
of most 3D game players. The AGP slot can facilitate the upgrading
of the video card and support the TV-OUT and LCD through plugging
in the ADD card. But for the P2E/333 with i845PE, it has no integrated
video card and it renders more space for the users to play.
